This small but rich collection of photographs shed light on a very significant era of Bahrain. They highlight how different life in the country used to be like. Coming across this collection was a pleasant coincidence as my interest at the time was to investigate and document Bahrain’s history, heritage, legacy, and tradition. The photographs were taken by an American geological engineer J.T. Deane who worked for the Bahraini Oil Company (BAPCO) from 1932 to 1942. During his tenure, he frequently explored the country and documented his trips with photographs. The photos in this book are published for the first time.
